Erin Petson

I recently discovered the work of Erin Petson, an illustrator who uses mixed media montage to create really ethereal, mysterious and magical drawings. I love the outcomes she produces and feel the techniques are really effective. I like her use of photocopying, smudging and layering and want to experiment with these techniques in my own drawing and visual research work. Her drawing is very free and loose and this is something I think my own drawing work would really benefit from.

Brooke Roberts SS11

I recently discovered the work of Brooke Roberts, who's work i find really inspiring. Like myself her knits focus on fine yarns and transparency. I can't believe it's taken me so long to find out about her. The garments are absolutely amazing, and she even pairs one of her dresses up with socks, something I decided I really liked the idea of in my final project last year and that I want to explore further when designing, this year. These photos were sourced from http://www.brookeroberts.net/ss11.html.

Samples!

I've only just began sampling and after a long summer, getting back on the knitting horse has been a refreshing challenge. This year I really want to push myself to play with different yarns, gauges and scales and although these samples are relatively simple their the boost and the inspiration I needed to get my head back in the game...

More to come...

Final Year.... EEEEEEEK!

Ok, so 3rd year has just begun and I'm excited but also incredibly nervous. My research focuses on finding the unnoticed beauty in our surroundings and the environment we inhabit, the patterns and structures of the modern, and the organic disintegrating worn surfaces of the old. I took these photographs in a variety of places, including Malta, Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford. These are a tiny fraction of the photos I'm using as inspiration but they capture the main focus, and are my favourite examples of beauty taken forgranted. I want to use the patterns, details and structures as inspiration and a starting point for my knitting.

Enjoy! x

2nd Year Final Outcome..

I made this dress during my 2nd year of my textiles degree. I was inspired by fossilised corals and shells and their skeletal, structured and fragile qualities. This was the first full garment that I made and I'm really pleased with it, however it was supposed to be much shorter, and in future if i work with viscose I'll account for the fact it will stretch.

Thankyou to my amazing flatmate Alice for modelling!!
